ADMIN & FOCUS

Where does your working week go?

Small admin tasks can quietly take over the time you meant to spend on clients and growth.

For one week, make a quick note each time you switch tasks. Include the few minutes spent finding a document, chasing a reply, rescheduling a meeting or answering an interruption. Those short jobs are easy to overlook, but together they can break up a whole afternoon.

Then group the work into three lists: tasks only you can do, tasks that need your approval, and tasks someone else could handle with a clear brief. Start with one repeatable task from the third list. Write down the outcome, where the information lives and when you want an update.

Delegation is easier when the first handover is small and specific. Once that task runs smoothly, you can build from there.

WAYS OF WORKING

A simple handover that saves follow-up emails

A useful brief gives someone enough context to act without asking you to explain every step.

When handing over a task, begin with the result you want. Add the deadline, the relevant files or contacts, and any limits on what can be decided without you. If there is an example of a good finished result, share it.

Agree how progress will be reported. A short update at a set time is often more useful than a string of messages throughout the day. Make it clear what needs an immediate decision and what can wait for that update.

This gives the person doing the work room to take responsibility, while you still have a clear view of the outcome.

BUSINESS SYSTEMS

Make recurring work easier to repeat

You do not need a complicated system to keep everyday operations consistent.

Pick a task that happens often, such as welcoming a new client, preparing a meeting or following up an enquiry. Write down the steps in the order they happen, including the decision points that usually slow things down.

Turn that list into a checklist or template where your team already works. Keep the language plain and link to the files people actually need. Test it the next time the task comes around, then remove steps that are unclear or unnecessary.

A small process that people use is more valuable than a perfect document that sits untouched. Review it when the work changes.

Meet Laura

The person behind Haley Office

Hi, I'm Laura — a business support professional, entrepreneur and full-time mum who understands just how valuable time really is.

With over eight years of experience in executive assistance, office management and business administration, I've spent much of my career helping executives, business owners and teams stay organised, manage competing priorities and keep things running smoothly.

I've also experienced business ownership firsthand. Having built and managed my own skincare business, I understand that running a business involves far more than delivering a great product or service. There are customers to respond to, deadlines to meet, systems to manage and countless tasks competing for your attention.

Becoming a mum gave me an even greater appreciation for time, flexibility and finding better ways to get things done. It also reinforced something I've always believed: you don't have to do everything yourself to run a successful business.

That's why I created Haley Office.

I wanted to bring together my professional experience and understanding of business ownership to offer practical, reliable support to people who need an extra pair of hands — and someone they can trust to take responsibility for the details.

My approach is straightforward: I value clear communication, confidentiality, attention to detail and doing what I say I'll do. I believe good support should make your working day easier, not create more work for you.

Whether it's managing an overflowing inbox, coordinating a project, organising business processes or keeping social media activities on track, my goal is to give you the time and headspace to focus on the parts of your business that need you most.

You run the business. I'll help with the rest.
